Fed's Beige Book Shows Economy Strengthening but Pricing Not Keeping Up with Inflation
According to The Federal Reserve's most recent report on the economy the future is looking brighter - slowly. The recession of 2008 and 2009 was so deep, according to the Federal Reserve, that unemployment will remain high for the near future. The Fed says that inflation will be muted for some time, but they must be adjusting out energy and food prices - no? Retail sales are improving in most regions tracked by the Fed. On the other hand, fuel and food prices are increasing and most businesses do not have the demand to pass all of those costs on to consumers. Intense competition and discounting is one reason pricing power is limited according to the Fed.
