LLC Interests Are Not Subject to the Same Constraints as Limited Partnership Interests for Purposes of Passive Loss Rules
Two recent cases, one from the U.S. Tax Court and the other from the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, have ruled favorably to taxpayers that owners of limited liability companies are not subject to the same restrictions as owners of limited partnership interests in applying the passive activity federal tax rules. Study Finds Whitewater Releases on the Cheoah River in North Carolina Are Not Having Impact on Fishery
The restoration of the Cheoah River in western North Carolina and the occasional whitewater releases negotiated as part of the FERC relicensing effort are on track. NPS Reports Higher Visitation to National Parks in 2009
Overall visits to National Parks are up by 10% over last year. YTD NPS has recorded 769,632 more visits in 2009 than in 2008. NPS keeps great visitation statistics available on line by type of Park and for specific activities. How is the Industry Doing Overall?
We will be following up the Spring survey with a 3rd Quarter survey later this month. Some outfitters are reporting strong business or at the very least are even with last year. As you might expect, day trips near metro areas are doing the best with some exceptions in regions where cool, wet weather or high unemployment have dampened demand. Value seems to be king in 2009. In general, demand is weaker for more remote destinations with higher overall trip costs, especially if air travel is required.
