Call for nominations for Environmental Achievement Awards
The National Park Service is accepting nominations for the 2010 NPS Environmental Achievement Awards. The award offers an opportunity to recognize concessioners who have demonstrated substantial environmental accomplishments.
The due date for submitting nomination packages to the NPS Washington Office is May 28, 2010. (Note that this date was recently extended form May 14.)
Applications require an NPS nominator and signed endorsements from both the park superintendent and the regional director.
Concessioners who believe they have a project which may be eligible should coordinate with their park concession specialist. Outstanding nominations will be passed along for further consideration for the Department of the Interior Environmental Achievement Awards.
The NPS Environmental Achievement Award offers an opportunity to recognize concessioners for their efforts in one of the following areas:
1. Waste/Pollution Prevention and Recycling
2. Environmental ("Green") Purchasing
3. Environmental Management Systems
4. High Performance/Sustainable Building
5. Alternative Fuel and Fuel Conservation in Transportation
6. Environmental Stewardship
7. Electronics Stewardship
8. Climate Friendly Innovation
To be considered for the NPS Environmental Achievement Award, the park and/or concessioner must submit a nomination form, an abstract, a detailed narrative, supporting materials, and cover letters from the park superintendent and regional director endorsing the nomination. The nomination process must be coordinated with the park; park concession specialists will review concession nomination packages for accuracy and content before forwarding to NPS headquarters.
To be considered, all or part of the nominated project must have occurred during the 2009 fiscal year (October 1, 2008 - September 30, 2009).
Nomination instructions, associated nomination materials, and FAQs are provided on the new NPS Commercial Services Web Site at http://concessions.nps.gov/tools_env_awards.htm
